My third diorama from 2022. The scene depicts the desperate last stand of the Swedish Blue Brigade, fighting to the last man against the imperial cavalry at the Battle of Lützen in 1632.
In the dense fog and gunpowder smoke, the catholic Spanish and German forces repeatedly attacked the stubborn soldiers of the old Blue Brigade and it was almost completely crushed.
The Swedes and Finns (and Germans) in the Blue Brigade were of course dressed in blue, but this was a time before uniforms so it is conceivable that most took what was available at home or on the battlefield. Many of the Swedish soldiers also wore a certain, flatter helmet of British / Dutch model, which did not have as wide and raised comb as the classic Morion helmets. I have tried to recreate all this, as well as some fur hats that I have sculpted for an extra Nordic touch!
There are also lots of bits and pieces that I have swapped or resculpted. For instance the kneeling musketeer. The figures are mainly from the fantastic Avanpost Miniatures, but also some 1898 Miniaturas, Perry and 1st Corps.
At the end are some inspirational pictures.
